In Sinj Croatia, you will get to taste the real Croat lifestyle...

Perhaps one of the most historical cities in Croatia is Sinj, and you can definitely see it by the way people live their lives, as well as the monuments, architecture, and artworks that are found all over the city.

Sinj actually forms part of both Split and Dalmatia. It's one of the most populated too, with more than ten thousand inhabitants at the early part of the twenty-first century.

Sinj was used to be a very silent town until the small settlement of Croats defeated the Moors, when they tried to conquer the country. It's also one of the reasons why Sinj developed right inside an Ottoman fortress.

The history of Sinj is better preserved in its two well-known museums. You have the town museum, as well as the Franciscan museum. These all contain both cultural and historical relics that will definitely teach you a thing or two of the glorious past of the city.

You may also find that most of the people in Sinj know how to play football, and it's because the first player to do so is actually buried here. His name is Gaj Liberie, who is buried in a grave monument. You can also go for some tee time in many of the golf fields that are in the city.

The streets and pathways may be narrow, but walking along them is the best way to fully enjoy and immerse yourself to the city. It will also be a good way to spot a nice and cozy restaurant or cafe where you can dine sumptuous Croat-Mediterranean meals.

You can also venture into Centina where you can find one of the precious paintings in all of Croatia: that of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy. This will also speak of the great devotion Croats have of the Blessed Mother, considering that there are almost 5 towns that are solely designated as Marian towns. It's also one of the reasons why besides the beach you can also participate in a Marian pilgrimage or tour.

When is the best time to visit Sinj?

The best time to visit Sinj Croatia is not only in the summer but also during the "Sinjska Alka". This is an annual event that is used to commemorate the victory of the Croats against the mighty Turk troops. This is also performed to help the youth and those that are very young to get to know the heroic deeds of their forefathers.

You can always bring your own mode of transportation when you're in Sinj, but you may also want to ride their horses, too. Cetina, one of the major towns in the city, is highly known for horse breeding, which has been their practice and source of livelihood for more than 3 centuries.

The horses, on the other hand, are commonly used during the Sinj Alka, where one of the common activities is equestrian tournaments. The participants of the said competition will usually take one whole year to prepare.
