Spending time in Croatia

(Munich Germany)

Hi! I have never travelled to Croatia and am trying to coordinate a trip with friends for only 4/5 days in the beginning of June. My friends are travelling from Frankfurt to Croatia and I will take a plane from Munich or a bus from Vienna. What is the recommended place to visit if we desire beaches and relaxation but have to be concerned with price. Right now its inexpensive to fly in to Zagreb Croatia but it is a distance from the beach?

I have read its worth taking a 9 hour cruise but not sure if this is the best use of our time. Can you help with recommending the best option for Teaching Assistants with limited income to spend.

Thank you so much!

K

Hi Katherine,

I've taken the bus myself from Munich (Busbahnhof in Fröttmanning near the Allianz Arena) to Zadar a couple of years ago. It's very cheap - something around 50 EUR (one-way). It takes some time but it's very cheap.

If you want "beaches & relaxation" - Zagreb is not the right place for you. From Zagreb it's another 4 to 5 hours to the coast (and your desired beaches).

For specific suggestions on possible spots in Croatia I would need more information from you.

Nevertheless, the nearest coastal area from Zagreb is Istria (northern area of Croatia) - that's also not that expensive and has great beaches. You could also consider the island of Krk (connected via bridge from mainland) which also is in the Istria region (great island with fantastic beaches).

If you need something else - just comment here.

Hope that helps!

All the best,
Tobias

Thanks so much! Right now we are trying to decide whether to fly directly to Dubrovnik and enjoy the time spent there for the few days. Again the biggest factors are beaches and cost for our limited time available. I can look in to Istria and the Island of Kirk as well. Any suggestions on places to stay that are reasonable and relaxing but accessible to some night life? Best wishes!

Croatian beaches and cost
by: Tobias

Well, I can only recommend to visit Dubrovnik. In my opinion it's one of THE top spots in Croatia. You have great beaches in the surrounding area as well as directly in Dubrovnik (Paklina beach is the most famous beach in Dubrovnik), you have some nighlife and plenty of things to see (Dubrovnik walls for example).

So, accommodations are available in Dubrovnik but most might be out of your budget. In this case you would need to book something outside of Dubrovnik where it's cheaper.

Here are accommodations in Dubrovnik.

In terms of cost - have a look at the Istria region (and Krk island)!

Click here see (and compare) some great accommodations on Krk island.

Or search for accommodations in the whole region of Istria:

You can find the best deals and compare prices of hotels in Istria here.
